In an interview with Telly Masala, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame Rohit Purohit states that Armaan is certainly a complex but not a toxic character. Rohit states that even after many fights and disagreements, he still wants Abhira (Samridhii) to complete her studies and be financially independent. The actor further states that Armaan never gave any sort of relationship commitment to Abhira and how Armaan still considers her as a responsibility. Rohit then mentions how the audience is always more connected to the female lead, and hence if anyone behaves rigidly with the female protagonist, they think that the other character is wrong. Rohit states that as viewers are more connected to Abhira, they are bound to think sometimes that Armaan is behaving wrong with her.
