Hema Committee Report: Somy Ali makes shocking claims; 'Seen women leaving hotel suites after being exploited by actors in Bollywood'

Hema Committee Report has started a much needed discussion around the safety of women in cinema. The Malayalam film industry is currently under the scanner as the #MeToo movement has caught up pace. A lot of big names are making to the headlines. Stars like Jayasurya and more have been accused of sexual abuse. Now, Salman Khan's ex-girlfriend, Somy Ali has made some shocking comments about the work ethics in Bollywood.

Somy Ali shared her own experiences and recalled the #MeToo moments. The actress who was a part of a few films in the 1990s shared that she was warned that visiting certain man's suite was necessary if she wanted to progress in her career. In an interview with the entertainment news section of Hindustan Times, she also spoke about the heartbreaking 'walk of shame'. Somy Ali mentioned that she has seen women 'disheveled and distressed, leaving hotel suites early in the morning after being exploited by some of the biggest actors in Bollywood, including individuals publicly seen as committed family men.' The actress did not take any names but hinted that back then, misconduct against women was quite prevalent. She also stated that back then the industry silenced those who voiced against the harassment in the industry. She added, "The challenges I faced made it clear that my voice wasn't valued as it should have been." Somy Ali asserted that the film industry now needs a systemic change and she hopes that Hema Committee report will serve as a wake-up call.

Though currently, the Malayalam Film Industry is under the discussion, in the past the #MeToo movement unmasked many from Bollywood as well. A lot of big names got blamed of misconduct against woman in the workplace. Apart from this, the film industry is often blamed of casting couch and more.

Somy Ali was a part of films like Krishan Avtaar, Yaar Gaddar, Aao Pyaar Karen and Andolan. Her last film as an actress was Chupp. She also remained in the news because of her connection with Salman Khan. Often Somy hit headlines as she made comments about her relationship with Dabangg Khan. In recently times, she condemned the firing that took place outside Salman Khan's home posing as a threat to his life.
