Nithya Menen reveals if she feels pressure after winning the National Award [Exclusive]

Nithya Menen won her first National Award in the Best Actress category for her performance in the Tamil film, Thiruchitrambalam. Directed by Mirthan R. Jawahar, the romantic comedy also stars Dhanush, Prakash Raj, Raashii Khanna, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Nithya portrays Sobhana in the film as a dear friend of Thiruchitrambalam Jr., unrequitedly loving him and never expecting anything in return. The actress' character received tremendous love when the movie was released.

Last week, Nithya Menen was honoured with the National Award and her fans were quite happy for her. Congratulations were pouring for her all over social media. BollywoodLife spoke to Nithya and we asked about her first reaction when she found out she was winning the award. The Thiruchitrambalam actress said, "My first reaction was 'disbelief'. I didn't know the National Award was being announced and our film was in the running for it. I was very pleasantly surprised."

So who was the first person she called when she found out she's winning the National Award? Nithya answered, "Actually, I was at home and some work-related things were happening. Dhanush called and gave me the news. I spoke to him and kept the call and continued doing my work. I don't think I needed to call anyone; everyone was telling me."

Further in this entertainment news, we asked Nithya Menen if she could think of certain characteristics that made Shobana such a beloved character. Menen wants the audience to tell her what they liked about Shobana. The 100 Days of Love star believes that her character's sacrificial and unconditional nature as a friend must have appealed to the audiences. "I think people like those who are unconditional and don't think of themselves. Maybe that's what they liked about Sobhana," Nithya stated.

Does winning a national award make Nithya feel relieved or does she feel pressured now that the expectations will be higher? The actress answered, "This is not the beginning of my career. I've already done so many films. So, I don't feel there's any pressure. But I do feel now like myself. I am feeling calmer, fine, and settled. I can continue to do the kind of films that I want and they will be recognised; people will understand that kind of thing."
