Vicky Kaushal's much-awaited historical drama Chhaava was released in theatres on February 14, 2025. The movie received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the actor portrays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the movie, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta. The first-day collection of Vicky's movie is out and the number is quite big.
On its day 1, Chhaava has performed quite well. As reported by Sacnilk, the movie opened to Rs 31 crore on the first day in all languages. Hence, it has registered the biggest opening of 2025 so far. Overall, the historical drama had an occupancy of 35.17 percent, and the morning shows registered 30.51 percent footfall. The afternoon shows registered 34.50 percent footfall, whereas it was 40.51 percent in the evening.
For Vicky, Chhaava also marks his biggest opener ever (not just 2025), leaving behind his record of the 2019 movie Uri: The Surgical Strike. Uri's opening collection was Rs 8.20 crore. The Laxman Utekar-directed film has also surpassed the record of Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, which had earned Rs 15.30 crore on its first day.
Meanwhile, earlier in an interview with City Times, the actor opened up about playing Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj on screen. Vicky said, "I actually got very scared because, being born and raised in Mumbai, I understand the significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. They are not just historical figures; they are revered as gods. The weight of portraying someone of that stature was daunting. "Laxman sir had three non-negotiables before we started shooting. One, I had to put on significant muscle mass. He told me, 'If I'm making you fight a lion, you need to look like a lion.' So, I gained about 25 kilos of weight, and I also had to grow my hair and beard."
