Sardaar Ji 3 controversy: Diljit Dosanjh's film to suffer 40% revenue loss due to film not releasing in India? Producer says...

Diljit Dosanjh's movie Sardaar Ji 3 is ruling the headlines lately due to presence of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the film. The Born to Shine singer is facing a lot of backlash on social media for collaborating with a Pakistani artist. Post the terrifying Pahalgam terror attack, a ban was once again issued on Pakistani artists working in India. Keeping in mind the current situation, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 decided to release the movie only overseas. Diljit's film won't hit theatres in India. Despite that, he and producers are receiving major backlash. Now, the producer has opened up about the controversy and the decision to release the movie overseas.

Producer on Sardaar Ji controversy and loss

In an interview with NDTV, producer of Diljit Dosanjh's film Sardaar Ji 3, Gunbir Singh Sidhu said that the decision to cast Hania Aamir in the movie was taken much before the terror attack. The film was shot in February-March when the situation was stable. He mentioned that there was no restriction from the Government of India or any other institution. "The whole atmosphere was normal. There was no restriction from the Government of India or any other institution," he said. The producer further shared that the decision to release the film overseas was taken keeping in mind the sentiments of Indian citizens post the terror attacks. Further Gunbir Singh Sidhu was asked about the loss the film will incur due to its ban in India. The producer calculated it basis the revenue made by his previous movie Jatt and Juliet 3 and said that the loss would be around 40 per cent.

Gunbir Singh Sidhu was quoted saying his previous movie Jatt and Juliet 3 released last year and was the first Punjabi film to cross the mark of Rs 100 crore. He further explained "40% of that came from business in India and 60% overseas. So you assume that we have a business of about 40 crore from India and 60 crore from abroad. In such a situation, it is clear that 40% of our revenue loss has happened." The makers have now decided to not work with Pakistani artistes.

FWICE calls for ban

Meanwhile, celebrities like Mika Singh, Ashoke Pandit and others have slammed Diljit Dosanjh. FWICE has called for a ban on all his upcoming projects. Letters have been written to Bhushan Kumar and Imtiaz Ali to remove Diljit from their films, say reports.
