Ahaan and Aneet Padda were chosen by casting director Shanoo Sharma for Saiyaara. When she first met Ahaan, he was 19 years old and looked like a 15-year-old. Recently, Shanoo revealed Aditya Chopra's conversation with Ahaan's parents, Chikki and Deanne Panday, and how they were navigating tough seas before Saiyaara. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Shanoo disclosed that before Pathaan, Yash Raj Films was struggling because several of its films had poor box office performance after the pandemic.

However, Aditya informed his parents that he was unable to launch Ahaan and was not sure when he would, since his films had not done well. Shanoo revealed what Aditya told Ahaan's parents. In her words, "Films have not done well at YRF, and they are not doing well even outside, so I don't know when I will be able to launch him. I don't know when I can make a film with newcomers. I know you are getting these offers outside. If you are losing patience, I don't want to come in the way."
"Please go and I will work with you whenever we have something. The parents turned and said this is completely Ahaan's decision. He turned to Ahaan and said what is it what you want to do. He didn't take a beat. He said I will wait and stay here. Whenever you have something for me I will wait."
Ahaan has emerged as YRF's rising star. According to reports, Aditya has already compared Ahaan to Ranveer Singh, a previous YRF prot g , because of how impressed he is by his dedication. For the unversed, Ranveer made his Bollywood debut alongside Anushka Sharma in Band Baaja Baarat in 2010.

A source, cited by BollywoodShaadis, said that, "The project Adi planned with Ahaan was delayed multiple times. Ahaan was contractually bound to Yash Raj Films. Adi offered to release Ahaan from the contract. However, Ahaan chose to stay and said, 'No sir, I will wait as long as it takes,' and he remained committed until Saiyaara materialised."
