Yu Menglong Death News: Three women have been arrested by Beijing police for disseminating false information about Chinese star Yu Menglong's cause of death online. On September 11, the 37-year-old fell from a residential building in Beijing, China, sparking a lot of online speculations and conspiracy theories. On September 16, his management team shared a statement from Yu's mother on the Chinese social networking site Weibo, stating that he had unintentionally fallen from a height after consuming alcohol and that she had been notified by the police of the investigation's findings.

A notification posted on the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau's Chaoyang branch's official Weibo account on September 21 also verified the cause of death.

False news over Yu Menglong's death cause

"However, certain individuals fabricated and disseminated false information online to attract attention and boost traffic, splicing together fabricated videos that severely disrupted public order," said the notice. "The police have initiated an investigation in accordance with the law."

According to the Chaoyang police, a 40-year-old woman with the last name Zheng is among the women being detained.

What were the fake claims?

On an online forum, the netizen said that "a big shot tried to take advantage of him, the henchmen set him up, he was forced into drinking and assaulted, then leapt to his death in despair" after reading online reports of Yu's death.

According to the police notice, the second woman in custody is a 29-year-old with the last name Yuan. She made false claims about Yu being "hung from a high-rise building, had his fingernails pulled out and his abdomen cut open before being thrown from the building" on a number of websites.

The third woman has the last name Xu and is 41 years old. She alleged "the surveillance footage was deliberately destroyed, a powerful force was behind the action, and now, the actions of Yu's mother and sister are being restricted."

Police rules out criminal suspicion

According to the notice, the three people have acknowledged spreading false information, adding that the police opened an inquiry as soon as Yu fell accidentally after drinking. After conducting an on-site assessment, forensic testing, security video reviews, and interviews, the police ruled out criminal suspicion. According to the notification, the family was also notified of the results of the inquiry.
