The children of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor informed the Delhi High Court on Friday that one of them, enrolled at a US university, has not paid her fees for the past two months. Judge Jyoti Singh heard the lawsuit and advised the parties not to make the proceedings "melodramatic." She gave the legal team defending Priya Kapur, the late Sunjay Kapur's widow, instructions to make sure that future disputes of this kind are settled out of court and don't come before the bench.
Samaira Kapur and her brother are contesting the legality of their late father's alleged will, which is said to contain assets valued at over Rs 30,000 crore. The hearing was a part of a broader dispute.
Lawyer says tuition unpaid, funds withheld
Speaking on behalf of the children, senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani stated that Sunjay Kapur was obligated by a marriage order to pay for his children's schooling and other costs. He asserted that Priya Kapur currently controls the children's fortune and that Samaira, who is studying in the US, has not paid her tuition for two months.
Priya denies claims, says all dues cleared
On behalf of Priya Kapur, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, however, dismissed the allegation as false and unfounded. He insisted that Priya has continuously supported the kids and that all obligations, including the tuition, have already been settled. Nayar added that the matter was brought up in court to garner media interest.
Kapoor siblings seek bar on asset disposal
The Kapoor siblings' request for an interim injunction to stop Priya Kapur from selling any of their late father's possessions was also discussed during the hearings. Next week, the court has set aside further time for arguments on the matter.
